I am a senior at Spencerport High School and for my Senior Project I decided to do something to help the relief effort in Haiti. I created a design for a t-shirt that was based off of the history and culture of the Haitian people. The writing in the front is in French and it means the “Republic of Haiti.” The subscript means “The Black Napoleon” the nickname given to the Haitian Revolution’s leader Toussaint L’Ouverture. The red and blue color of the writing is representing the red and blue color of the Haitian flag. The symbol on the right chest is a crucifix with a red “V” to show the Haitian’s mixed religion of Voodoo and Christianity. And lastly the symbol on the back of the shirt is the coat of arms. The phrase “L’Union Fait La Force” means “Unity is strength.” All of these things are important aspects of Haitian culture and history. Part of the proceeds from this selling of this shirt will go to Haiti Relief Fund Inc. Thank you
